The Colchester Rotary Club Garden Party BBQ ~ In Support of Post-Polio Syndrome – Saturday 14th September

I am writing to club members to seek your support for a Garden Party BBQ & fund raising event, being held at The Officers’ Club on Saturday 14th September 2019, from Midday to 4pm, in aid of Post-Polio Syndrome. The event is being sponsored by The Rotary Club of Colchester.

Post-Polio is a cruel condition that affects those who thought they were cured of polio in their childhood. It is estimated that 96,000 polio victims in the UK will experience a return of the symptoms, often without warning. These symptoms significantly impair people’s lives, with consequences such as the need for specialist walking frames and wheelchairs. The aim of The Rotary Club of Colchester is to support this unfortunate group of people and help purchase necessary items which are not provided by Government agencies, NHS or their support agencies.

The Colchester Rotary Club has been supporting Post-Polio Syndrome patients at Colchester General Hospital for about eighteen months. Our contact is the Clinical Lead Neuro-rehabilitation Team and Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in Neurology for East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust who works with the local Post-Polio Syndrome Society; this group has approximately 70 local members who meet regularly.

The ticket cost for the BBQ is £20 for adults and £10 for children aged under 12. The ticket will include a drink on arrival, then either the BBQ or an alternative dish followed by dessert. Entertainment will be provided during the afternoon, and I hope that you will be able to support the raffle, for which tickets will be on sale before and during lunch, with the draw being held at approximately 3.30pm.

If you would like to attend please contact Sam, at the main office of The Officers’ Club, to purchase your tickets. Payments can be made by cash or cheque (card payments unfortunately cannot be taken for this event). Cheque are to be made payable to “The Rotary Club of Colchester”.  If, however you are unable to attend, perhaps you would very kindly consider making a donation. Again, this can be done through the Club admin office.

I very much hope that you will be able to support this fund-raising event in aid of Post-Polio Syndrome sufferers.

Thank you for your support.

The Colchester Rotary Club.
